Mission:

The mission of Bear Hills Rural Development Corporation is to encourage economic development in the area served by the RDC thus increasing wealth creation and improving the quality of life in rural Saskatchewan.

Mandate:

Provide assistance to entrepeneur and community groups to achieve their desire for economic growth and prosperity.

Bear Hills Rural Development Corporation Goals:

Continue to provide quality, confidential small business counseling service to clients in the region served by Bear Hills.

Continue to actively participate in partnerships and alliances with business, industry and government.

Assist the community to establish a community venture fund or similar local investment device.

Work towards the enhancement of the current automobile dealership and related services to the community and or attract another dealership to the community.

Encourage an increase in the number of quality residential properties in the community.

Build on the positive business climate in the community.

Bear Hills Rural Development Corporation Objectives:

Have the business community create 15 new jobs per year over the next 3 years.

Have the community develop an investment vehicle for local projects.

See a creation of three new service sector businesses per year.

See an increase in the residential accommodations by12 to 24 units over the next three years. Provide assistance to local group(s) interested in developing a condominium projects to provide housing options for residents and attract new residents to the community. Provide options for resident of the community who move to cities for condominiums.

See a serious exploration of the value added agriculture and light manufacturing sector.

Have the community identify the prospects for the tourism industry.

RDC CORE SERVICES:

1) Coordination:

Staff of the Bear Hills Rural Development Corporation will continue to provide assistance to the communities served with the coordination of activities related to the economic growth of the region. The office will work with individuals and groups achieve their goals for economic growth. Staff will also assist the communities with the coordination of events that are deemed to be positively impacting the local economy.

2) Organizational Development and Planning:

Bear Hills Rural Development Corporation will continue to work on its organizational development. It will continue to build capacity in the community. Staff will take an active role in planning for continued economic growth of the local communities and its citizens. Staff and board members will participate in the community and assist with planning of local events that encourage economic growth.

3) Education and Training:

Bear Hills Rural Development Corporation will work with Prairie West Regional College and other training organizations to provide the training and education in the area. Bear Hills staff will work with local training groups to identify training needs. Staff will also communicate training opportunities to our clients and community groups.

4) Information:

Staff will process and distribute information that will be beneficial to the board, clients and the community to help make informed decisions about economic development related issues. The staff will also communicate relevant information in a timely fashion through an article in the local newspaper.

5) Research and Development:

Bear Hills will conduct and compile research for clients as they require. This may also include industry based information that will be used on larger community based projects. Information collected for clients will be kept confidential as per their request.

6) Promotion and Marketing:

The Bear Hills RDC will work in conjunction with other organizations to promote the community as a good place to do business. The RDC will work with SIR, its partners in the Midwest REDA, local municipal governments, community groups and individuals as best suits the most effective way to promote the community.

7) Local Initiative and Project Management:

The Staff and board members will work to engage the community in local project initiatives. Bear Hills may take the lead role in projects that it feels will benefit the local economy. This lead role will only occur until a local champion(s) are engaged. Staff will provide assistance to groups requesting project management. When possible the staff will only provide assistance. A group may request that the staff take the leadership role. This will be done if no other suitable option is available.
